Hope Of Christ Presbyterian Church 44 West White Street in Summit Hill, PA

"Looking forward to new Ministry and Mission."

Hope of Christ hosted a Ham Dinner in 2009. This year we will have two Spaghetti Dinners rather than the Ham.

First Presbyterian Church of Panther Valley merged with the Tamaqua Presbyterian Church. Tamaqua held its last service of worship in June 4, 2007. The merger necessitated finding a new name for the merged church. We are now Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church!

Our merger would not have become a reality without the help of many people. We thank Lehigh Presbytery for helping us through the process. Rev. Leon Morgan who has been serving as the Moderator at First Presbyterian Church of Tamaqua was instrumental in getting all the work complete. Thank you Leon!

This is a picture of the Cherry Picker that Sobrinski and Sons was using as they worked on the refurbishment of the church.

This is how the building looked before any work was done on the new Brickface.

As noted elsewhere our  church has had a facelift.  We had a  billboard that told about our church. It was on the Nesquehoning Road (just past the High School; seen best when you are traveling toward Lansford from Nesquehoning.) We hope  to be able to have it return soon.
The pictures above portrays the contractors at work using a cherry picker; the lower pic shows the building prior to repair.

The Gathering of the churches of the Panther Valley (formerly the Ministerium)  sponsored  a Vacation Bible School called Come to Camp Edge which took  place at Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church July 27-July 31.

After the Tamaqua church merged with us  we needed to sell the building where they had been worshiping.  We are pleased that Stephen Bennett, a world renowned portrait painter has bought the building. He will be using it as a studio and he has begin the work of setting up  a residence in the building as well as a studio for his art. He also has plans to open up the studio to teach local children how to do portrait painting. You might want to take a look at some of his work at http://www.theportraitpainter.com.   Some of the money from the sale of the building is being used to help offset the cost of refurbishing the Summit Hill Church building.

Our solution to the problem of having a projector right in the middle of the Sanctuary (which was obtrusive to many and which made it impossible to see the Celtic cross)  was to purchase two large flat screen TV Screens that replace the projector. They are now in place and the resolution is great! Their addition makes it possible  for us to again see the beautiful Celtic Cross that graces the wall directly behind the Ambo (pulpit)  but which was not seen when the projection screen was lowered. We don't lose the technology of the projector. In fact, we have added to our technology. Now we have both. Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church certainly is keeping pace with the technology of our time!!
