"Looking forward to new Ministry and Mission."
Hope Of Christ Presbyterian Church 44 West White Street in Summit Hill, PA

Advent 2010 concluded with a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service which was well attended.
We celebrated Epiphany and an Ash Wednesday service on March 9. Lent continues. We join with the other churches in our area for Wednesday evening services at the other churches. Places and dates to follow. We certainly await Easter on April 24 .

During a special Service of the Word and Sacrament four confirmands were added to our numbers: Hayley and Adriana Loudon, Mary Lazar and Matthew Hudicka are our most recent confirmands. Rev. Ruth Ann Christopher, Pastor at Faith United Presbyterian Church in Pen Argyl, a daughter of our church and aunt of Mary Lazar assisted in the service.

Sunday Morning Worship begins at 10:30 during the winter months (generally this means from September to June.)  Session recently decided to move the time of the Service in the Summer to 9:30 beginning on Father's Day. The fellowship time is postponed until the fall when it  resumes.   You would be welcome to join with us! Our Worship is traditional and we hope to be able to blend some contemporay music into our services. We use the Common Lectionary to decide what Scripture will be offered. We also depend upon lay leadership during the service as well. We are open to new styles of worship.

Our Sr. choir is led by David Perkins. They sing each Sunday. All are welcome to sing in our choir. We have  established a youth choir and a Handbell choir is in the works.  Their voices praise God mightily and the congregation praises God in song along with them. We have been asked if our choir is a professional choir. The answer is no but they certainly sound as if they are!

The Sacrament of Holy Communion is offered regularly during the Sunday morning Worship service on the first Sunday of each month beginning at 10:30 except of course during the Summer when it changes to 9:30.

During the church year we offer special services that reflect the special church holidays within the church year. We offer services in Advent, Christmas Eve, Christmas. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and there is a service on that night. Special Services of worship take place on Maundy Thursday (This year we will celebrate a Tenebrae Service on Maundy Thursday at 7:00 p.m.), Good Friday, Palm Sunday and Easter. Pentecost Sunday is a special Sunday for us as we celebrate the birthday of the Christian Church (we wear the Liturgical color red that day to tell the world that we are disciples of Jesus Christ.) Pentecost is also the day when young people are confirmed.

On Pentecost, 2009 we confirmed 5 of our young men and women. Two young ladies (Emily and Jessica Loudon) and three young men (Christian Gardiner, Michael Perkins, Austin Miorelli).
Each of them composed a Statement of Faith and met with Session prior to being Confirmed on Pentecost.
We are pleased to have each of them as our newest "disciples"!

EASTER and Pentecost 2010 HAVE COME AND GONE! Folks found their RED (Shirt, tie, socks, dress etc. )  and they attended our special Pentecost Service.Red is the liturgical color for Pentecost after all! Come to church to celebrate the birthday of the Christian church . We confirmed three young folk (Ellen Perkins, Steven Reehl and Mike Lazar). We also received as new disciples Nancy Derby, Sarah Peckett and Scott Peterson.

We celebrated Jesus' birth on Christmas Eve at our annual Candlelight Service at 7:00 PM in 2010. It was well attended. We will hold another Christmas Eve Service in 2011.
