On January 8, 1974 Winnie the Pooh Pre-school was officially opened. During the previous year Rev. Carl Gray, pastor, Maxine Vermillion, Sue McCready, Martha Tirpak, and Jane Forrest met in the living room of the Presbyterian manse to plan the first stages of what became a mission of the church to the community. 37 years have passed since the School was first envisioned and it continues to function to this day.The goal of the pre-school is to teach children to learn and play together in a Christian environment.
Maxine Vermillion served as the first teacher. She was followed by Ruth Perelli, Sandy Koch, Jean Newton, Lucy Kozak, Michelle Bates, Chris Betz, and Marge Turano. The current and longest serving teacher for the school is Rose Fredericks who has served the school for 20 years. She started as "Mother's Helper" when her daughter was attending class. She went on to be assistant teacher and for the past 10 years has served as lead teacher and administrator of Winnie the Pooh Pre-school. She has two very able assistants; Lorraine Sommers and Kendra Kokinda. Miss Rose, Miss Lorraine and Miss Kendra (as they are called by the children), are pleased to have the aid and support of parents with daily activities and field trips.
